Around the globe most people get their calories from annual agriculture - plants that grow fast for one season, produce lots of seeds, then die.

Every single human society that has relied on annual crops for staple foods has collapsed.

Restoration Agriculture explains how we can have all of the benefits of natural, perennial ecosystems and create agricultural systems that imitate nature in form and function while still providing for our food, building, fuel and many other needs - in your own backyard, farm or ranch.

This book, based on real-world practices, presents an alternative to the agriculture system of eradication and offers exciting hope for our future.
FAQ
Why should I care about ecology? - Restoration agriculture system is designed to mimic nature. Nature operates and produces a yield with zero $ cost and zero inputs… By learning how nature works, we can approach the low cost efficiency of nature with our agricultural systems.

How does this work? - Look at the ditch on the side of the road. It doesn’t matter where you live. Nobody planted it, nobody added compost, mulch, fish guts or NPK in order to get it to survive and THRIVE! Natural systems like that thrive SO WELL that highway departments nationwide spend ZILLIONS! of dollars every year mowing it, chipping it, spraying it with herbicide and it KEEPS COMING BACK! In most roadside ditches there are plants that naturally produce agricultural yields, (including mushrooms!) and they keep coming back year after year… THAT is sustainable!

What results are other people having? - Around the WORLD! Land managers are producing food, fuel, medicines, and building materials sustainably with practically NO EFFORT! with few to ZERO INPUTS!

How fast can I expect results? - Restoration Agriculture ecosystems begin producing in as little as a few weeks. As the season and as the years go by more and more is produced as the ecosystem matures.

I already did something similar. Will this work for me? - Well…. You may have planted an “orchard” or a “food forest”, but unless you are way ahead of the curve, you likely didn’t plant an ecosystem modeled after your regionally adapted plant community types. If you planted an “orchard” you know how much work is involved and how many inputs are needed. In this course you will learn how natural systems function, and suddenly nature will work for YOU!

How long does it take to get the product? - You are one click away….

Why should I choose this course over other solutions out there? - There are courses available all over the internet these days and all that they can teach you is how to keep thighs alive that want to die and how to kill things that want to live. This course will help you turn conventional agriculture ON ITS HEAD! and how to work WITH nature rather than fight against it.

Uncover the SecretS most Titans of AGRICULTURE Business and Successful FARMERS wish you didn't know
Annual monocropping produces nearly all of the grain, meat, vegetables and processed foods consumed today. These practices require giant machinery, tilling and the application of chemical pesticides and fertilizers, resulting in the eradication of biodiversity, the erosion of topsoil, and contributes 30 percent of global carbon emissions — more than from any other source.

Despite the massive human efforts applied to farming, we are woefully short of the inherent resilience, stability, and outright beauty of natural ecosystems. We need look no further than native ecosystems for a template of how to move forward from the many woes of annual monocropping.

Modern agriculture exists today because the native, natural ecosystem has been intentionally destroyed, and the existing perennial vegetative cover wiped out by tillage or herbicides. Most of agriculture today also relies on large fields of a single species of plant like corn, beans or rice.

These monocropped annual plant systems are the most at-risk for catastrophic outbreaks of pests and diseases because there are no natural controls. The ecosystem is gone, and we are left with an ecological wasteland that continues to degrade over time.

Soil fertility declines catastrophically and plant fertility has to be imported from elsewhere. Annual agriculture, whenever it has been used to provide the staple diet of any culture, has always led to ecosystem collapse and eventually societal collapse.

Mark Shepard is the CEO of Forest Agriculture Enterprises LLC, founder of Restoration Agriculture Development LLC and award-winning author of the book, Restoration Agriculture: Real-World Permaculture for Farmers. Mark has also been a farmer member of the Organic Valley cooperative, the worlds largest Organic Farmer’s marketing co-op, since 1995.

He is most widely known as the founder of New Forest Farm, the 106-acre perennial agricultural savanna; the first farm scale permaculture system in North America.

New Forest Farm is a planned conversion of a typical row-crops grain farm into a commercial-scale, perennial agricultural ecosystem using oak savanna, successional brushland and eastern woodlands as the ecological models. Trees, shrubs, vines, canes, perennial plants and fungi are planted in association with one another to produce food (for humans and animals), fuel, medicines, and beauty. Hazelnuts, chestnuts, walnuts and various fruits are the primary woody crops. The farm is entirely solar and wind powered and farm equipment is capable of being powered with locally produced biofuels.
Trained in both mechanical engineering and ecology, Mark has developed and patented equipment and processes for the cultivation, harvesting and processing of forest derived agricultural products for human foods and bio fuels production.

Mark was certified as a Permaculture designer in 1993 and received his Diploma of Permaculture design from Bill Mollison, the founder of the international Permaculture movement. He teaches agroforestry and Permaculture worldwide.

"I have to admit that until recently I thought that permaculture was something that frustrated city people did under the pretense of feeding themselves from a few trees and bushes. But I came across it on a farm scale while exploring better things to plant in chicken runs. And then I watched a few videos by Mark Shepard! He's realistic, very holistic in his ideas and decision making, and this book is beautifully written to persuade readers to regenerate soils and habitat by planting perennials that can produce food or fibre, or nurture the soil. Maybe humans can survive the damage that has been done to the earth, and live well with eachother. With leaders like Mark and Allan Savory, I think we can."
